Why the Right Equipment Matters
Having the right tool for the job is critical to success in any construction project. Nowhere is this more true than in road construction, where speed and efficiency drive outcomes. For Queenslandโs Sticky Group, the decision to invest in wheeled excavation equipment transformed how they approached major works.
Switching from Tracked to Wheeled Excavators
Sticky Group had long considered a wheeled excavator. The breakthrough came during a six-kilometre ring-road project in Townsville. A tracked machine simply couldnโt move quickly enough along the site.
โWe had a new Takeuchi 8-tonne excavator working around Brisbane after last yearโs cyclone,โ explained Sticky, the Groupโs owner. โWhile that machine performed well, we realised a wheeled excavator could complete road construction tasks much faster. So we purchased a Takeuchi TB295W wheeled excavator to give us the mobility we needed.โ
Easy to Operate and Highly Mobile
Transitioning from tracked to wheeled excavation equipment required some adjustment. Sticky recalls that within a few days, his team no longer needed stabiliser legs. The TB295W allowed them to travel, scoop, and swing the boom with ease.
โIt was a different experience at first,โ Sticky said. โBut once we learned the techniques, the wheeled excavator quickly became second nature.โ
Expanding Work Opportunities
The Sticky Group sees broad potential for its TB295W. The machine already supports road construction by clearing drains, grooming roadside vegetation with a slasher or mulcher, and reaching further than tracked models.
โWhen the Townsville ring-road project finishes, weโll use the TB295W across other projects around the city,โ Sticky added. โAs an accredited rail contractor, we may even add a Hi-Rail attachment for railway work. This machine simply gives us more options and fewer restrictions than a tracked excavator.โ
Proven Power and Reliability
Sticky first discovered Takeuchi machines four years earlier with a used TB80FR excavator. Despite heavy use and modifications by previous owners, the excavator impressed with its strength and power. That positive experience influenced his decision to invest in more Takeuchi equipment.
A Versatile Fleet for Diverse Projects
Today, Sticky Group operates a versatile fleet that supports construction site clean-ups, road construction, housing estate earthworks, rail work, council projects, and rural applications. The addition of wheeled excavation equipment has enhanced the groupโs flexibility, speed, and efficiency, ensuring they can meet the demands of diverse clients.
