Fenech Groundworx: 25 Years in Construction
For the past 25 years, Fenech Groundworx has been preparing residential construction sites for building companies. They handle concrete preparation for driveways and footpaths. The company also works with homeowners, offering landscaping, concreting, and retaining wall services.
Choosing the Right Excavator
Last year, owner Steve Fenech received Australiaโs first Takeuchi TB230 excavator. He wanted a machine that could handle a wide range of tasks with speed, precision, and reliability.
โMany of our projects are for builders, so finishing on time is critical,โ Steve said. โAfter operating different brands over the years, we knew the type of excavator we needed to keep our business efficient while delivering strong customer service.โ
After comparing options, the team chose the TB230. Steve explained, โWe wanted a rugged, well-engineered machine that could perform day after day. The TB230 has met those expectations. Itโs reliable, powerful, and compact enough for tight spaces.โ
Compact but Powerful
The TB230 is only 1,450 mm wide, just 150 mm wider than a 1.7-tonne excavator with extended tracks. Despite its size, it provides excellent stability and performance.
Its tail-swing radius of 1,330 mm and 79/58-degree left/right boom swing angle give full stability. The 17.6 kW Yanmar diesel engine delivers smooth, quiet power for heavy tasks. The excavator also has a strong auxiliary hydraulic output that easily drives a PD3 Digga auger in tough ground.
Transporting the machine between jobsites is simple with Fenechโs 4.5-tonne GVM all-alloy trailer.
Operator Comfort and Safety
Takeuchi designed the TB230 with operators in mind. It includes a spacious, full-sized cabin with ROPS and FOPS protection for all-day comfort and safety.
The model also features a Takeuchi craning system for lifting suspended loads. This system adds safety by preventing operators from exceeding a safe reach. Anti-drop valves and warning alerts give extra protection.
Designed for Reliability and Easy Maintenance
Other key features include:
-
Multi-flanged roller system that lowers the risk of de-tracking on slopes
-
Auto downshift transmission that prevents overload and adjusts automatically
-
Accessible service points for quick and easy maintenance
These upgrades reduce operating costs and keep the TB230 working at peak performance.
